Structuring an essay (B1/B2)

Writing a good essay or report is not difficult if you structure it properly.
But it’s surprising how many people don’t follow these simple steps.

Lots of what we write involves introducing the subject, presenting the pros and cons and coming to a conclusion. Easy, right?

It is easy, yes, but only if you think about the whole structure. Too many students just write without thinking and when they get to the word limit, they stop as quickly as possible.

Try this activity from The British Council teens website which contains an example with useful linking words and a balanced structure. There are also exercises to check that you’ve understood how to use the vocabulary.
